Both legs must hold: (a) the S&P 500's closing high for the first half of 2021 falls between 2021-02-01 and 2021-04-30 (late January allowed, per the 2021-01-08 restatement that put the peak near 4,000); and (b) from that high the index falls at least 10% peak-to-trough, toward roughly 3,500, on or before 2021-06-30. The index making successive new highs through the window without a decline of at least 10% resolves FALSE; a shallower dip (under 10%) is a partial miss on amplitude.

Both required legs fail independently, so the record is resolved regardless of how the peak-window ambiguity is read. The actual H1 2021 path is precisely the scenario the criterion names as resolving FALSE: 'The index making successive new highs through the window without a decline of at least 10%.' The index set its H1 high on the final day of the half and its worst drawdown (-4.23% closing / -5.75% intraday) was less than half the required 10%. This is not merely a shallow-dip amplitude miss — the timing leg fails too, since the H1 peak fell in late June rather than February-April. Data are official daily closes from the St. Louis Fed (FRED series SP500) cross-checked against Yahoo Finance ^GSPC OHLC for the intraday figures; the two agree on all closing values. No conflicting evidence found. Note for the later stage: no outcome value assigned here.

Evidence of what happened

  • Leg (a) FAILS. The S&P 500's highest close of H1 2021 was 4,297.50 on 2021-06-30 — the very last trading day of the half, not in the Feb-Apr window. The highest close inside the criterion's window (2021-02-01 to 2021-04-30, and even stretching back to late January per the restatement allowance) was 4,211.47 on 2021-04-29, which was not the H1 peak. Monthly closing highs marched steadily upward all half: Jan 3,855.36 (1/25), Feb 3,934.83 (2/12), Mar 3,974.54 (3/26), Apr 4,211.47 (4/29), May 4,232.60 (5/7), Jun 4,297.50 (6/30). Computed from FRED series SP500 (S&P 500 daily closes), 124 trading days.

    Evidence

  • Leg (b) FAILS. Maximum peak-to-trough decline in H1 2021 on a closing basis was -4.23% (3,934.83 on 2021-02-12 down to 3,768.47 on 2021-03-04) — well under the required 10%. On an intraday basis the deepest drawdown was -5.75% (intraday high 3,950.43 on 2021-02-16 to intraday low 3,723.34 on 2021-03-04). Measured specifically from the Apr-29 window peak of 4,211.47, the deepest subsequent close through 2021-06-30 was 4,063.04 on 2021-05-12 (-3.52%), and the deepest intraday low was 4,056.88 on 2021-05-12 (-3.67%).

    Evidence

  • The '~3,500' target was never approached after January. The lowest intraday print of all H1 2021 was 3,662.71 on 2021-01-04 (the year's opening day, before the predicted peak), and the lowest close was 3,700.65 on the same date. After the February-April window the index never traded below 4,056.88. The index closed H1 at 4,297.50, up +14.4% from the 2020-12-31 close of 3,756.07.
