Avow scores the public predictions of public figures. This page says what we collect from visitors, why we collect it, and how to get it removed.
The short version
We do not sell your data and we do not run ads. There are no accounts to create. The only personal detail we ask you for is an email address, and only if you decide to give it.
What we collect
How the site is used. Every page loads Google Analytics. It records things like which pages you open, which topic filters you press, which predictions you read, and which source links you follow out. It stores cookies in your browser, and Google receives your IP address as part of running it. We use this to learn which parts of the site people actually read.
Your email address, if you give it. The signup form on the home page passes your address to Resend, the service we use to send email. We use it only to tell you when a new pundit is scored or when we ship something new. Nothing else.
Anything you type in the suggestion box. If you suggest someone to score, that text is emailed to us together with your address so we can reply.
Email you send us. If you write to [email protected] we keep the message so we can act on it. Where a message leads to a correction, the record of what changed and why is part of the published methodology.
Ordinary server logs. Cloudflare serves this site and logs requests as part of delivering and protecting it.
Who else handles it
Three services process this data alongside us, each under its own terms:
- Google for analytics.
- Resend for the mailing list and for sending email.
- Cloudflare for hosting and delivery.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address until you unsubscribe, and then we remove it from the list. Analytics data is kept for the retention period set on our Google Analytics property. Messages you send us are kept for as long as they are relevant to a correction or a dispute.
Your choices
Unsubscribe. Every email we send carries a one click unsubscribe link. You can also just ask us.
Ask what we hold, or ask us to delete it. Email mailto:[email protected] from the address you signed up with, and we will tell you what we have or delete it.
Turn analytics off. Browser tracking protection and content blockers stop the analytics script from loading. The site works normally without it.
The people we score
Avow publishes quotes, dates, sources and scores about named public figures. Everything we publish about them comes from statements they made in public, each one linked to its original source and an archived copy. We publish this as commentary and analysis in the public interest.
If you are one of the people we score, or you represent them, you can challenge any quote, date, outcome or reading of confidence. Write to mailto:[email protected]. We check it again, and if something was wrong we correct it, log the correction on the record, and the score recomputes.
Children
This site is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information about them.
Changes
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it.
Contact
Everything reaches us at mailto:[email protected]: questions about this notice, requests to see or delete what we hold, challenges to a published quote or score, and anything else about the site.
The "Dispute this record" link on every prediction opens a message to that same address with the subject filled in, which is how we tell corrections apart from everything else.
