the chances that it actually flips it in a sustained way like meaning like it it just continues to go up and and not pull back this cycle i think are relatively low however is there a chance that for a moment in time at the very least ethereum could flip it i would say the probability is is non-negligible

ETH's market cap does not exceed BTC's on a sustained basis (≥7 consecutive days) at any point on or before 2021-12-31.

ETH's market cap topped out near 53% of BTC's in 2021; it never crossed 100%, so the 'no sustained flip for ≥7 consecutive days' criterion holds trivially. Value (o) not assigned.

Evidence of what happened

  • ETH's market cap reached roughly 50% of BTC's in May 2021 and peaked around 53% in November 2021, but never exceeded Bitcoin's market cap during the 2021 cycle — there was no 'flippening,' let alone a sustained (≥7-day) one.

    Evidence

  • The flippening — ETH surpassing BTC in market cap — has never occurred; ETH's cap remained a fraction of BTC's throughout 2021 and after.

Corrections

  • tags: 'ETH flips BTC' is a cryptocurrency dominance/level call — the dictionary lists this exact case under 'crypto' (primary); 'markets' secondary.
